Keeping your dog in your yard isn’t always easy and there are many neighborhoods that won’t allow fences in your yard. If you can do a fence where you live, they can be costly since you will probably have to hire someone to come out and install the fence.

Let your dog have freedom in your yard without a leash.

Invisible fences aren’t much better. You have wires that have to be buried in the ground, maybe you can do it yourself, but I know of several people that would have areas of the fence that would stop working, and their dog could escape until they were able to figure out where a wire might be broken. If that happens, your dog is free to roam until you can get it fixed.

The Petsafe wireless invisible dog fence might be what you are looking for. There is no expensive fence or buried wires that you have to maintain. Take a look at this Petsafe Wireless Dog Fence Review to see if it can solve the problem of your dog escaping your yard.

Petsafe Wireless Invisible Fence Overview

The Petsafe wireless fence will help provide a containment area for your dog in your yard without you having to bury any wires or install a fence. There is a transmitter unit that you place in your home or garage that will create a circle area of protection up to 3/4 of an acre. The only thing you need as an outlet nearby the transmitter for it to work.

You can adjust the area that is covered by moving the transmitter, adjusting the setting to a smaller area if needed or you can purchase additional transmitters to make the area larger for your dog. The transmitter should be placed 2 to 4 feet above ground level for best results.

It works for dogs 5 pounds or heavier with a neck size of 6″ to 28″. The collar unit is small and contoured for a comfortable fit for most dogs, is waterproof and can be placed on your dog’s own collar if you want.

It has a tone only correction plus 5 levels of adjustable correction. The tone only mode will alert your dog with a beep when they are nearing the bounties you have established. There is an automatic safety shut off 15 seconds after your dog goes through the bounty after they have received their correction.

It is easy to set up and generally will take 1 to 2 hours for complete setup and testing.

Petsafe Collar

The collar comes with rechargeable batteries that fully charge in 2 to 3 hours. It is recommended that you only charge the unit when the charge is 20% or less to help maintain the battery life. The collar will show green for fully charged, yellow for less than 60% charged but more that 20% charged and red when lower that 20% charge is left. Never leave your dog’s collar on overnight, as they can cause irritation if left touching their skin for too long. (The same can be said for regular training collars as well.)

You can add unlimited number of dogs with the purchase of additional collars.

The unit is completely portable, allowing you to take along with you when you go camping, to the cottage or visiting relatives for the weekend.

It comes with 50 bounty flags for training your dog and a complete manuel for training your dog to know their limits. The training even works on distractions outside of the containment area, to help keep your dog safe no matter what is going on around them. You will have to spend several days working with your dog to help train them where their bounties are.

Good 4: Adjustable containment sizing up to 3/4 of an acre.

Who Is Petsafe Wireless Dog Fence Good For

If you have a dog that likes to escape your yard, you don’t want a fence, can’t have a fence or can’t afford a fence, the Petsafe Wireless Invisible Dog Fence is a great option to help keep your dog safe and in your yard.

The expense is relatively low compared to having an actual fence installed and still less expensive than having wires buried for the typical invisible fence.

You can read the 5 star reviews here for what other customers felt were the positives of this product. They might help you in making your decision.

My Overall Opinion…

I do not believe this fence is good for someone who has a long narrow yard. With the only shape that is available being a circular shape, there will be much of the yard that your dog won’t be able to use and you will really be limiting them to a small portion of your yard.

I feel that it is important to try to keep our dogs safe, away from the road and out of other people’s yards, so if your options are limited by neighborhood rules or the overall expense of a regular fence, the Petsafe Wireless Fence will offer you and your dog a safer yard for your dog to have some independence without being on a leash or tied up.

There are smaller systems that are available that cover 1/2 an acre and will cost less for the smaller units. The following link are other wireless invisible dog fences that are available and are all rated 4 stars or above. Take a look at these if the above unit isn’t what you were looking for.

Summary

This Petsafe wireless dog fence review should help you to decide if it is the right unit for your needs. I believe that the strongest positive of this Petsafe wireless dog fence is that the cost is so much better than having a fence installed and the amount of time before you can start using the wireless fence.

The biggest drawback of this wireless fence is that it is only a circular shape. All of the units that provide this type of system with a transmitter in your home are only available as a circle. If you are a more handy person, you could install your own in ground invisible fence. You might want to take a look at a guide to invisible fences. It talks about the different type of invisible fences that are available and gives more background information on invisible fences.
